U.P is the place where many religions are deeply rooted and the traces can still be found. One such place is Varanasi which is the oldest living city where the Hinduism and Buddhism reached its height. The holy Ganges River flows from Varanasi. Near to Varanasi is Sarnath where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon. We can see the Stupa built by Emperor Ashoka dating back to 234 B.C. Tourists coming from the Buddhist countries never fail to visit Kushinagar, as it is the principle center of Buddhist pilgrimage. 51 km from Gorakhpur Kushinagar is a palace where Lord Buddha attained Nirvana. The Nirvana temple here has number of Stupas and statue of reclining Buddha.
