The master piece of the Mughal architecture, Taj Mahal was the outcome of the last wish of Shahjahan’s wife which she expressed it on her death bed. The construction began two years after the death of Mumtaz Mahal in the year A.D 1632. Twenty thousand workmen were employed to construct this great marvel. Shahjahan built a small town to accommodate the workers named after his wife Mumtazabad which is now known as Taj Ganj.

Ustad Ahmad Lahauri designed the colossal structure and Ismail Khan Afridi of Turkey was the one who undertook the work of constructing the Dome. The superintendent of masons was Muhammad Hanif. Amanat khan Shirazi was the Calligrapher of Taj Mahal and his name is written at the end of one of an inscription on one of the gates and poet Ghiyasuddin composed the verses that are written on the tombstone.

The material for construction was brought from all over India as well as from abroad. Apart from the Marble used, red sandstone, jasper, crystals, jade, Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise, sapphire, coal, Comelian, diamonds, precious and semi precious stones were used for inlay work. The central dome is 187 ft high at the centre. Taj Mahal is the rarest of architecture that makes all awestruck with its beauty and grandeur.

Some people find this structure with its best view at sunset whereas some feel it looks best in the full moon and amazing at dawn.
